Robots in route to Antarctica to study underside of ice shelves

Digital Journal

University of Washington Professor of Oceanography, Craig Lee, is seeking answers, “The contribution of the great ice sheets in the Antarctic and Greenland are the largest sources of uncertainty in our numerical predictions of what sea level rise might be, how it might respond to climate change.”

To this end, the University of Washington’s College of the Environment, the UW Applied Physics Laboratory and Paul G. Allen Philanthropies have partnered to use a robotic network of underwater drones to observe the conditions beneath a floating Antarctic ice shelf. “This is a high-risk, proof-of-concept test of using robotic technology in a very risky marine environment,” says Craig…

Top Insights on the CMO’s Best Allies, Content Marketing, and the Art of Story-Telling for Brands

Martechseries

Aseem Badshah, Founder and CEO at Socedo, predicts, “In 2018 B2B marketers will stop gating their content to collect contact info. Instead, they will prioritize total audience engagement with their content. Competing for customers’ attention is harder than ever and marketers need to remove friction from getting the value to their audience. Contact info is cheap and content MQLs perform much worse than leads who have indicated they are ready to talk to a salesperson.

Retargeting and social media publishing is becoming a more effective way to nurture an audience than email. 2018 will be the year where B2B marketers prioritize audience engagement over collecting email addresses!” Earlier in 2017, Socedo had announced that it raised $1 Million from Angel Investors, Divergent Ventures, Vulcan Capital and Techstars Ventures. Currently, the company provides behavioral data from the social web to help B2B marketers improve all types of marketing activities and get more leads to their sales team…

ReadCoor Receives Grant from Chan Zuckerberg Initiative

Morning Star

Research to map spatial distributions of cell types for the Human Cell Atlas ReadCoor, Inc., a company reinventing omics and pathology with its panomic spatial sequencing platform, today announced a grant from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) and DAF, an advised fund of Silicon Valley Community Foundation, to spatially map cortical cells using Fluorescent in situ Sequencing (FISSEQ) for the Human Cell Atlas.

The collaboration’s goal is to benchmark in situ technologies and establish best practices for the Human Cell Atlas. The atlas will contain in depth variance maps of cell transcriptomes, genomes, proteomes, metabolomes, and epigenetic landscapes. FISSEQ will provide deep insight into cell variation in the context of the tissue microenvironment, a feature that is difficult or impossible to obtain with traditional in situ methods…

Understanding Smart Cities And The Potential Role Of Out-Of-Home Advertising

Smart and Resilient Cities

The ongoing avalanche of technology transformation has resulted in big changes to nearly every aspect of city living. This list includes how visitors and residents communicate, consume, connect, and work – and most of it has come at a relatively low-cost to the users of such technology. Those basic economics are driving cities to invest in ambitious smart city initiatives.

Dr. Peter Williams (Chief Technology Officer for Big Green Innovations at IBM) suggests a smart city “is where the Internet of Things and analytics are applied to public infrastructure, services, and participation in the community.”…

Carroll says protests during anthem ‘took a toll,’ particularly during Titans game

Q13 Fox

Pete Carroll admitted Tuesday that the decision by some members of the Seattle Seahawks to protest racial inequality during the national anthem before the team’s games was a distraction this season.

Carroll was much more candid on the subject than he had been previously as he addressed it during his season-ending press conference at the VMAC, saying he believed the protest had a particular impact on the Seahawks’ 33-27 loss to the Tennessee Titans in Week 3…
